My name is Jennifer VonBohland, Psy.D., and I would like to
welcome you to Diakonos Counseling. I earned my Bachelor’s of Arts degree in
Psychology from William Jewell College and then completed my Master’s and
Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Forest Institute of Professional
Psychology. During my graduate training, my main area of focus was on marital
and family psychotherapy. Over the past 15 years in the mental health field, I
have had the opportunity to work in numerous settings such as a community mental
health center, a family guidance center, an inpatient hospital, and finally, a private practice located outside of
Lafayette County. While working in these
settings, I have gained experience
conducting individual, family, and marital therapy as well as supervising
students in their clinical work.
During individual therapy, common concerns which I address
include men and women struggling with symptoms of depression or anxiety,
processing thoughts and feelings about traumatic events, and managing anger and conflict effectively. In family
therapy, typical goals include discussing conflict resolution strategies and
increasing the consistency and follow-through with parenting styles. Finally,
when working with couples in therapy, typical goals include improving
communication, intimacy, and overall trust level between partners.
